A great week (Nov 17-20, 2009) at the first New Italian Cinema Festival in Seattle!  Despite terrible weather and competition from several competing festivals, attendance was strong, especially for opening and closing nights.  We watched terrific and challenging films every evening.

Winner of the raffle trip to Perugia is Rita Lindle of Seattle - congratulations!

Two films - FORTAPASC and THE SICILIAN GIRL - dramatized the impact of organized crime in Naples and Sicily.  Other strong films included PA-RA-DA, EX, VIOLA DI MARE (Sea Purple), HOUSE IN THE CLOUDS, DIFFERENT FROM WHOM?, AND LECTURE 21.  Marco Amenta (below), director of THE SICILIAN GIRL, was one of several film directors, cinematographers, and actors attending the festival and taking questions.

Thanks to all of you for attending, for supporting SIFF, New Italian Cinema Events of Florence, and the Seattle-Perugia Sister City Association.  And many thanks to our main sponsor - PAGLIACCI - and our supporters, UW Italian Studies, UW Central West European Studies, and the Dante Alighieri Society of Seattle.

We'll do it agan next year!
